Ignite Program

Callaghan College Jesmond Senior Campus provides the Ignite Intensive English Program as a pathway to support newly arrived students to learn and develop their English language skills in a supportive and collaborative senior learning environment.

Ignite Intensive English Program is embedded in Callaghan College Jesmond Senior Campus and supports students at a Beginning and Low Emerging phases of learning English to learn English for work, study and future pathways.

Ignite supports students at their individual point of need to improve their skills in English, work towards a selected pathway and develop social and emotional skills to engage effectively with family, friends and the broader community.

Ignite supports newly arrived EAL/D students and students from refugee and non-refugee backgrounds by providing an orientation to school, the local area and Australia in general.

Ignite is designed and developed as additional English language learning with supported programs for students who are aged between 16-18 years of age. It is a 2-year program and further educational pathways after Ignite include TAFE and Open Foundation.

During the 2-year program, Ignite students are supported to complete work experience placements in the local community in collaboration with local businesses, engage in TAFE starter courses and participate in orientation programs at UoN and Open Foundation.

Students also run and host a student hair and barber salon onsite and run a coffee program with the school’s coffee van.
