HPGE CAPA Program - Year 7 2027

The High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA) Program at Callaghan College Wallsend Campus is designed to support the learning of HPGE students in the Creative Domain. It gives students the opportunity to work with like-minded students in variety of creative and engaging lessons.

About the CAPA Program

The CAPA Program runs from the start of Year 7 until the end of Year 8. In Term 2, Year 7 CAPA students participate in a specialised CAPA Project where they focus on their chosen discipline.  Students work collaboratively with peers and challenge their skills through the creation of a performance or artwork.

Our CAPA students are offered a variety of workshops and excursion opportunities to extend skills in their chosen area. Students also participate in our CAPA Challenge Day and CAPA Showcase and are expected to join at least one ensemble. They may choose from the following:

After Year 7, there are a number of CAPA elective subjects to choose from to study in Years 8, 9 and 10, such as Music, Drama, Dance, Photography, Visual Art and more.

Jesmond Senior Campus - Year 11 and 12

Students move to Callaghan College Jesmond Senior Campus which has state-of-the-art CAPA facilities. These include an auditorium with professional sound and lighting, a recording studio, individual soundproof rehearsal rooms, mirrored dance studio, drama theatre and more.

  2. Keep an eye out on the family email for audition details.
  3. Participate in a group audition - students will have the opportunity to present a 2 min 30 second to 3-minute piece in their chosen area.
  4. If successful, accept your position!

Friday 27 February - Online Application Form opens
Term 2, 2026
Friday 8 May - Online Application Form CLOSES
Monday 22 June - Group Auditions held at Wallsend Campus
Term 3, 2026
Friday 31 July - Students will be notified of the outcome of their application by this date. A notification will be sent to the family email address.
Thursday 13 August - Last date for successful applicants to accept or decline their offered position
