Apps and online forms for families

Callaghan College uses Sentral, School Bytes and Canvas to communicate with families.

These applications consolidate information about your child’s activities, absences, payments and more.

We also use online forms for student agreements, policies and procedures. Scroll down for more information.

Sentral Parents

For student attendance matters, booking parent and teacher interviews and accessing academic reports.

Process to access Sentral Parent Portal

  • When registering please use your email address as your username.
  • Apply for Parent Portal account - Register for the parent portal
  • If using the app, search for Sentral Parent and install on your smartphone.
  • You will be sent a key within 24 hours (during school terms) to connect your child (this is not your password – you set your password when created your account).
  • Connect your child using the key sent to you.

School Bytes

For making payments, viewing financial records and giving parental consent for school events.

How to set up your parent portal account – School Bytes

For making payments, viewing financial records and giving parental consent for school events.

The School Bytes portal provides flexibility for you to:

  • Make school payments online (including paying for multiple siblings at once)
  • Use a family credit to pay for an activity or school contributions
  • Download a receipt for payments made
  • View all historical payments in one place
  • Complete and submit digital permission notes
  • View the status of all permission notes

Online payments are processed in real-time and can be viewed by school staff immediately.

While our preference is for payments to be made via the portal, we will still accept payment via cash and EFTPOS at the school office.

Canvas Observer/Parent

For tracking your child’s learning progress, including classwork, assessment tasks, and teacher feedback. You can also use Canvas to communicate with your child’s teachers.

Process to access Canvas Observer/Parent

We use the Canvas learning management system for all students to be able to access their learning, resources, assessments and calendars.

Parents/carers are welcome to observe their own student(s) by using the Canvas app and website.

Parents/carers can access their observer account either by the Canvas Portal or the Canvas Parent app.

Access via the Canvas Portal:

  1. Register on the Canvas portal
  2. Students will firstly need to create a pairing code via their settings on their own Canvas login. This code can be found by clicking their picture in the global navigation bar, choose settings and on the right-hand side of the page click 'pair with observer'.

Access via the Canvas App:

  1. Download Canvas Parent on your smartphone from the App Store or Google Play
  2. Search for Callaghan College (Parents)
  3. Create an account (You may already have an account - click forgot password if you do)
  4. Students will firstly need to create a pairing code via their settings on their own Canvas login. This code can be found by clicking their picture in the global navigation bar, choose settings and on the right-hand side of the page click 'pair with observer'.
  5. Add pairing code.

Online Forms

Permission to participate in local walking excursions - use this form to indicate parent/carer consent for your child to participate in local walking excursions within a 1km radius from the school.

Laptops for learning user agreement form - To allow your child to participate in the Laptops for Learning program, please read through this form with your child and ensure they understand their responsibilities under this agreement.

Extra-curricular Code of Conduct Agreement - this agreement must be signed before your child can represent the school in external events or competitions. Please ensure your child understands the expectations and responsibilities that come with representing our school.

Permission to Publish form - use this form to indicate parent/carer consent for the school to publish photo or video content of your child in school publications (online and print).

Prescribed Medications form - please complete this form if your child requires prescribed medication while at school or participating in a school activity.

Special Religious Education (SRE) participation form - use this form to indicate parent/carer consent for your child to participate in either Special Religious Education (SRE) or alternative activities provided by the school.

Permission for your child to view PG content at school form - use this form to indicate parent/carer consent for your child to view PG film content at school for educational purposes.

Permission to join Newcastle Regional Library network form - use this form to indicate parent/carer permission for the school to arrange membership of the Newcastle Regional Library network for your child. This membership will provide your child with access Studiosity, a free online homework assistance program, as well as Newcastle Library's range of eAudiobooks, eFilms and eMagazines.

School Opal card or travel pass application- use this form to apply for a School Opal card or travel pass for your child (if required).

Permission to Play Rugby League and/or Rugby Union - This form serves as a continuous permission note for rugby league or rugby union trials, training and games throughout your student's time at our school.
